The Urban Issue

Welcome to the wonderful Fall issue of Re:verse, The Urban Issue. This season we asked readers and writers to reflect on life in the city, and what we found was an eclectic and vibrant collection of works that reflect a diverse array of urban experiences.

It is interesting to note that all of the poets in this issue are from smaller urban, or non-urban places. This gives us some interesting insight into the types of places that we consider “urban” and what we imagine "city activity" to be.

In Symptoms of Emotional Abuse budding poet Grace Macnab offers some honest, heart-full and, at times, painful reflections on emotional abuse.

Mackenzie David Wood provides some beautiful lines about the complexities of love and relationships in The Perfect Crime.

Having grown up in Toronto and moved to Vancouver in my late teens, Takeisha Robin Ball's beautiful work, Leave Me by the Lakeshore, brought me back to my childhood home in the big city by the lake.

Aliesha Jenanne Hollingsworth gives us a passionate and honest look at her relationship with her mother in Reminder, granting readers a rare glimpse into a complex family situation.

This issue is packed with poetry that hits the heart, the home and the gut. This is the city.
