Sunlight and Salvation
by Shawn Sanders
The autumn is taking its final stand
The sunlight sluicing through
In spectacular spears of light
Arching from between the crossed cherubic blades
Fiery redemption in the diaspora from Eden
Wake up! the trumpet cries
I will not heed the salvation that leaks through
My dingy curtains
I hate you, cherubim
Take back your golden morning
Take back your deliverance
It's not what I asked for
Grant me a greater gift
Than sunlight and salvation
