Life As A Honeysuckle
by Chris Lilley
Once I dreamt of heat
so hot neither love nor fire could touch
it burns my skin red
glistening brown
these summer days
how I dream they will never go away
I only live for 3 months out of the year
seasons change and you move on,
seasons change
light is beautiful
how they show off their sun kissed model’s bodies
they can hide secrets as big as bodies behind those innocent eyes
you’re lucky to know their names
on these summer days nothing can be seen as work
the minutes tick by like hours
and the wind whispers sweet obscenities to me
Now is the time for rest
work is done
slumber ensues, or does it?
children of the night gather under silver moons
decorated to embrace the unethical knowledge of night
the infinite is explained in these times of blank oceans
seas of darkness
the unknown is hiding in front of us
I hear the cries of delight and sorrow
I hear laughter and the moon calling out to me
golden goddesses now covered up
campfires and thoughts of love
I can smell liquor and forgotten memories
I see the stars and everything else in the sky
explained or not
I can feel the chlorine breeze
the hot tub
the pool
the late night dip
the excitement of wonder
but everything is breaking up
the ying and yang is balanced
the eyes of reality are opened once again
I am not afraid this time
