DUB POETRY YOUTH WORKSHOP
Workshop Description: Set in an anti-oppression framework and using storytelling as art for social change, d'bi.young will engage 15-30 youth in a two-day workshop at the Britannia Community Centre, culminating in a public performance at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre on April 28th. Much of d.bi young’s work focuses on identity and esteem building, while addressing inter-sectionality. Targeting high school and older youth (ages 14- 21), these workshops will and take race, class, gender, ability, language, culture, and sexuality into consideration. The youth will perform alongside a showing of d'bi's critically acclaimed albums and books in a Dub Poetry Storytelling Session and the launch of her new book from Women's Press, rivers…and other blackness…between us.
Location & Times: April 26 - 11:00 am – 6:00 pm, Britannia Community Services Centre, 1661 Napier St
April 27 – 1:00 PM – 6:30PM, Britannia Community Services Centre
April 28 – 8pm Performance, Vancouver East Cultural Centre, 1885 Venables St.
Cost: $50
Registration: ongoing until April 7th, 2008. Space is limited to 30 youth participants
